Bael Ka Sharbat

Bael which is also known as bili or bhel or Bengal quince or wood apple is a fruit native to Bangladesh and India. Its pulp is used to make an extremely tasty and refreshing summer cooler drink. Bael ka sharbat provides protection against the scorching heat of summers and helps in fighting against other gastric problems. It also helps control bad cholestrol and it's good for heart and can cure respiratory problems. The benifits of bael are many. (Caution: Bael may not be good for pregnant women. Too much bael can cause constipation for normal people too.)

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 5 minutes + 60 minutes for soaking the Bael in water

Recipe Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients for Bael Ka Sharbat / सामग्री:

  • Ripe Bael or Wood apple - 1 medium size; (पका हुआ बेल) 
  • Sugar - 2 table spoon; (शक्कर या चीनी)
  • Chaat Masala Powder - as per requirement; (चाट मसाला पाउडर)
  • Water - 3 glass; (पानी)
  • Salt - as per requirement (optional); (नमक)
  • Ice Cubes - as per requirement (optional); (बर्फ की क्यूब्स)

Procedure for making Bel Ka Sharbat:

  1. Wash the bael or wood apple nicely with plain water. 
  2. Then break the bael or wood apple open and scrape out the entire pulp.
  3. Soak the pulp in clean drinking ice-cold water for 1 hour. You can also soak and keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  4. After 1 hour take out the container in which the bael or wood apple pulp is soaked.
  5. Start mashing the pulp in the water and make a uniform sharbat solution.
  6. Add sugar and stir to mix it in the sharbat solution till the entire sugar gets dissolved.
  7. Now add a little salt (if required) and chaat masala powder (as per requirement) to the sharbat solution. Mix well again.
  8. Now pour this sharbat solution in serving glasses and add ice cubes if required. 
  9. Sprinkle some chaat masala powder or roasted cumin seeds powder. The chilled and refreshing bel ka sharbat is ready to be served.

बेल का शर्बत बनाने की प्रक्रिया:

  1. सादे पानी के साथ बेल अच्छी तरह धो लें।
  2. फिर बेल को तोड़कर खोलें और एक चम्म्च की सहायता से उसका पल्प (या गूदा) बाहर निकालें।
  3. 1 घंटे के लिए एक कंटेनर में साफ और ठंडा पीने के पानी लेकर बेल का पल्प (या गूदा) उसमें भिगोकर रखें। आप इसे 1 घंटे के लिए भिगोकर रेफ्रिजरेटर में भी रख सकते हैं।
  4. 1 घंटे के बाद यह कंटेनर (जिसमें बेल का पल्प (या गूदा) भिगोया गया था) बाहर निकालें।
  5. अब बेल के पल्प को पानी में हल्का-हल्का मसलना शुरू करें और एक समान शरबत बनाएं।
  6. इस शरबत में स्वाद के अनुसार शक्कर (या चीनी) डालें और अच्छे से घुलने तक मिलाएं।
  7. अब शर्बत में थोड़ा नमक (यदि आवश्यक हो और स्वाद में अच्छा लगे तो) और आवश्यकतानुसार चाट मसाला पाउडर डालें। अच्छी तरह से फिर से मिलाएं।
  8. अब इस शर्बत को सुन्दर से गिलास में डालें और आवश्यकतानुसार बर्फ की क्यूब्स डालें।
  9. थोड़ा चाट मसाला पाउडर या भुना हुआ जीरा का पाउडर ऊपर से छिड़कें। आपका ठंडा और रिफ्रेशिंग बेल का शर्बत तैयार है।
